Queer Reads For Black Pride

hey y’all! as many of you know, it is pride month. the fact that this pride month coincides with current uprisings across the world against white supremacy is not a mere coincidence.

.
it is impossible to understand the movement for black lives and the deconstruction of white supremacy without understanding the integral roles of Black queer and trans folk. the Black Lives Matter movement was started by 3 Black queer women- alicia garza, patrisse cullors and opal tometi.

.
it is impossible to understand pride and movements against homophobia/transphobia/cis hereto patriarchy without understanding the integral roles of black and brown queer and trans folk like marsha p johnson and sylvia rivera whose uprisings against police are the reason why pride even exists today.

.
this week’s book list highlights and celebrates the Black queer/trans experience through realistic fiction, poetry, fantasy, autobiography, and historical account.
