Self-Care Reads for Black Folks
hey y’all! this edition of curated lists is for Black folks that need a break. it is exhausting navigating an anti-Black world. to do so during a PANDEMIC that is disproportionately impacting black communities?? nah. for me, reading has always been an opportunity to escape. to hold space for myself and to rest. this list includes titles that aren’t related to anti-racist activism or the dismantling of the white cis-heteronormative patriarchy. these titles are by Black folks, about Black folks, for Black folks.
.
my eternal fave, audre lorde says “caring for myself is not self indulgence. it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare”. Black folks deserve to rest. we deserve to take breaks. my rest looks like going on scenic bike rides, reading fiction by black authors, and caring for my plants. take time to consider what rest looks like for you and how it fits into your own life.
