Essential Reads for Anti-Racist Work

i’ve been doing a lot of thinking about the various ways that we can engage in movements for justice, equity, and liberation. and while we all may choose to engage in different ways, the shared theme is the necessity of education and critical thinking.

in order for us to create a free and just society, we need to educate ourselves. educate ourselves in the sense of introducing ourselves to novel ideas and actively engaging with them. educate ourselves on oppressive structures. educate ourselves in effective methods of liberation. educate ourselves on the history of these movements and those who have engaged in this work long before our time.

i have created this project- Reading for Black Lives, as an opportunity to provide literary resources that 1-centers Black and brown authors as experts and sources of knowledge 2-provides entry points for any and everyone no matter where they are in their journey. I will be releasing new book lists bi-weekly on a number of different themes/focuses. this list is be no means exhaustive and I implore you check out other resources/reading lists by and for black folks.
